The Vermont Horse Council works with local riding clubs, as well as State and National agencies on the maintenance, preservation, and improvement of trails within Vermont. Specifically, those trails include:

  • Northeast Kingdom Trails (Victory and Island Pond)
  • Groton State Forest Trails and Equine Camping Facility
  • Willoughby State Forest Trails
  • Coolidge State Park Trails and Equine Camping Facility
  • Green Mountain National Forest – Silver Lake Trails and Camping Facility

We collaborate with local riding clubs for trail maintenance volunteer days. Special events and rides are scheduled throughout the year and can be found on our calendar of events page.

Annually through the VHC Cooperative Agreement with the Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) a planning process to identify equine related trail projects on State lands is undertaken and if funding is secured, completed in the following year.

Trail Grants

The Vermont Horse Council is pleased to offer small grant opportunities to Vermont organizations that use, promote, and maintain equine trails within the state. The program will assist equine trail organizations the opportunity to maintain and repair trails with grants from the Vermont Horse Council. We can also apply for grants from other organizations. If you have ideas for trail projects, let us know and we can help.
