Promotion Committee – Chair - Doug Smith
Purpose: to increase awareness of the activities and services of the VHC as a statewide resource. To reach out through all media, network with other equine organizations and be an ambassador for the VHC.

2017 Actions –

1.       Increase membership to 200 by December 31, 2017
2.       Minimum 15 members in each county
3.       Host 3 Safety outreach events
4.       Host 1 Equine Industry Summit in the fall to improve industry relationships and increase industry memberships
5.       Develop plan to recruit attendance at Committee Training Day


Equine Activities Committee – Chair -Terry Rose
Purpose:  to identify, develop, support or implement equine-related activities; to network with other organizations to achieve this outcome.

Services Committee – Chair - Jeannette Cole
Purpose:  to identify and develop services to benefit VHC members and when possible the equine community through, but not limited to the following areas:

  • Scholarships - Morris LaSall
  • Trail Fund-Morris Lasall
  • Ride & Drive- Brenda Lasall
  • American Horse Council – Ilene Douglas
  • Legislative

2017 Actions –

1.       $8,000 total available for all scholarships by June 30, 2017. Approximately $2,300 available as of 2.19.17
2.       Fully develop descriptions for all scholarships by March 30
3.       Create collaborative inter-organization committee to oversee Economic Impact Statement by May 30, 2017
4.       Compile database of Vermont-based equine-related industries by December 31, 2017
5.       Represent equine industries and owners to and educate legislature and appropriate state and federal agencies
6.       At least 2 VHC representatives attend Coalition of State Horse Councils in Nov. 2017
7.       Establish a liaison with the horse rescue community


Administration Committee – Chair - Heidi Krantz
Purpose:  to oversee policy, by-law, financial and board related issues.

2017 Actions

1.       Establish Committee Training event with 25 non-Board member attendees by April 30, 2017
2.       Develop and implement BOD Score Card by May 1, 2017
3.       Replace Treasurer by May 30, 2017
4.       Research bookkeeper options by February 28, 2017
5.       Develop a draft succession plan by November 1, 2017
6.       Update Organization Manual  - edited by May 1, 2017
7.       Create 2 versions of the Manual by June 30, 2017 – one internal, one external
