Purpose: to increase awareness of the activities and services of the VHC as a statewide resource. To reach out through all media, network with other equine organizations and be an ambassador for the VHC.

1.       Increase membership to 175 by December 31, 2018
2.       Minimum 15 members in each county
3.       Host 3 Safety outreach events
4.       Host Equine Industry Summit November 29, 2018 to improve industry relationships and increase industry memberships
5.       Continue quarterly newsletter, and regular web updates, FaceBook and blog postings


Equine Activities Committee – Chair -Jim Nickerson
Purpose:  to identify, develop, support or implement equine-related activities; to network with other organizations to achieve this outcome.

Services Committee – Chair - Would you like to Lead this important VHC Committee?
Purpose:  to identify and develop services to benefit VHC members and when possible the equine community through, but not limited to the following areas:

  • Farm Bureau  -Bev McMullin
  • Scholarships - Peter Otto
  • Trail Fund-Morris Lasall
  • Ride & Drive- Brenda Lasall
  • American Horse Council – If you are interested in national equine issues - volunteer for this position
  • Legislative

2018 Actions –

1.       $2,000 total available for all scholarships by June 30, 2018. 
2.       Participate in Farm Bureau Legislative Days March 2018
3.       Implement Equine Industry Economic Impact Study July 2018
4.       Annually update database of Vermont-based equine-related industries
5.       Represent equine industries and owners to and educate legislature and appropriate state and federal agencies
6.       At least 2 VHC representatives attend Coalition of State Horse Councils in Nov. 2017
7.       Establish a liaison with the horse rescue community


Administration Committee – Chair - 
Purpose:  to oversee policy, by-law, financial and board related issues.

2018 Actions

1.      Continue VHC Goal -tracking scorecard with periodic updates to membership
2.       Review VHC budget quarterly
3.       Develop a draft succession plan by November 1, 2018
4.       Update Organization Manual as needed  - last edited by January 2018
